Volume Reading Series, hosted by Hallie Goodman and Dani Grammerstorf French, happens on the second Saturday of every month at the Spotty Dog Books and Ale in Hudson, NY. We feature an hour of exceptional prose and poetry readings (7-8), followed by a killer DJ set (8-9) to warm up the room. Meet your favorite writer, get your book signed, bust a move and/or stare at the floor awkwardly. We provide the soundtrack. This event is always free. Save your $$ for books and beer!
On July 14th, Volume is proud to present Eliza Kennedy, Dawn Breeze & Laura Esther Wolfson, followed by a DJ R-Star.
ELIZA KENNEDY graduated from the University of Iowa and Harvard Law School, where she was an editor of the Harvard Law Review. After graduation, she clerked for a federal judge, then worked for several years at a major law firm in New York City. She has published two novels, I Take You (Crown, 2015) and Do This For Me (Crown, May 2018), both of which have been optioned for film. Her nonfiction and essays have appeared in the New York Times, Glamour, and Cosmo. She lives in Hudson.
DAWN BREEZE is a creativity advocate, change agent, designer of liberatory experiences, and an internationally awarded artist living in Germantown, NY. Her essays have been published in Huffington Post, Thrive Journal, Chronogram, and independently in the anthology Girls In Trees, the chapbook Suicide Imprint, and her new book of poetry, Breath 40x.
LAURA ESTHER WOLFSON'S debut essay collection, For Single Mothers Working as Train Conductors, holds the 2017 Iowa Prize for literary nonfiction. Her writing has also been honored with the 2017 Notting Hill Essay Prize, published in leading literary venues on both sides of the Atlantic, and repeatedly cited in The Best American Essays. She holds a Master of Fine Arts from the New School and lives in New York City. She served for many years as the interpreter for Russian-speaking authors at the PEN World Voices Festival and was also a PEN prison writing mentor.
Stick around after the reading for book shopping and signing, along with a one-hour set, from DJ R-Star. Special thanks to our beloved Spotty Dog Books & Ale and photog Anna Victoria for helping us make magic every month.
